Reddit API evaluation

Read-only local testing with a narrow scope.

Evaluation status

The Reddit module is an internal local prototype only. It is not a public application, SaaS product, social listening service, ad product, lead generation system, resale dataset, or automated engagement tool. The purpose of this evaluation is to confirm whether permitted read-only API access is technically suitable and whether a separate written commercial approval path would be required before any broader business use.

Planned access

Endpoint group Purpose Expected fields
OAuth identity check Confirm the app can authenticate correctly with its approved credentials. Authenticated app identity, token status, and request metadata.
Subreddit search/listing Review a small number of public post results from selected subreddits for manual feasibility notes. Public title, subreddit, permalink, timestamp, score, comment count, and post identifier.
Selected post thread Open a selected public post to understand discussion context without bulk collection. Public comment text excerpts, timestamps, score, permalink, and parent post context.

Limits

  • Read-only requests only; no posting, commenting, voting, messaging, saving, moderation action, or automated engagement.
  • Manual test runs only; no continuous crawling, no background monitoring, and no attempt to bypass rate limits.
  • Internal cap of 30 requests per minute and 500 public content records per day during evaluation, unless Reddit sets a lower limit.
  • Selected subreddit and keyword tests only; no all-Reddit bulk collection and no account profiling.
  • No scraping of Reddit web pages, no unauthenticated circumvention, and no masking of user agent or OAuth identity.

Storage and deletion

  • Developer credentials are stored only in the local testing environment or approved secret storage.
  • Raw response cache is temporary and is deleted within 7 days unless needed for security troubleshooting.
  • Manual evaluation notes are retained for up to 30 days, then deleted or summarized without raw Reddit content.
  • If Reddit access is revoked or the evaluation is stopped, stored Reddit content, cached excerpts, tokens, and derived files are deleted.
  • We will re-check selected public content before using any note so removed or changed content is not treated as current.

Excluded uses

  • No AI model training, tuning, evaluation, enrichment, vector database, or machine learning dataset creation.
  • No resale, lease, sublicense, redistribution, republication, or public display of Reddit content as a standalone dataset.
  • No advertising, lead generation, outreach automation, competitor surveillance product, or paid social listening service.
  • No collection of private messages, non-public data, deleted content, removed content, or sensitive personal data.
  • No use of multiple accounts to avoid limits or resubmit the same access request.
